Dental veneers are a good way to improve any smile. Veneers are used for different purposes, they are an awesome way to conceal stains and correct minor misalignments. But there are a few myths, which sound pretty believable. Let’s break them down!
Veneers Are Unnatural-Looking and Noticeable
Nowadays, veneers are made of high-quality materials and can be customized to match the shape, color, and thickness in accordance with the patient’s teeth. They are maximally thin and smooth. Veneers perfectly imitate tooth enamel and don’t look like a denture. Anyway, well-placed veneers will look natural enough, others will not notice them on your teeth.
Veneers Only Serve Aesthetic Purposes
Partly that’s the truth, veneers can help people to like their smile and get self-esteem, also they protect human’s teeth from caries, scratches, and other damages. Additionally, veneers lower tooth sensitivity. But you need to remember, that veneers can be placed only on teeth without cavities, dental calculuse, and other tooth diseases.
Veneer Application Is Painful
That’s not the truth, because dental veneers are placed under local anesthesia. This will numb the teeth and surrounding gums. There will be no pain or discomfort. The sensitivity can appear typically during the time a patient wears temporary veneers while the permanent ones are being fabricated. Once the patient’s permanent veneers are placed, the sensitivity is usually eliminated.
Veneers Are Only for Front Teeth
Veneers are commonly applied to the first six front teeth since they’re the most visible, but they can actually be used anywhere in the mouth. It depends only on individual differences. Veneers also can be placed on the lower front teeth and the premolars at will or on need.
Veneers Can Change Their Color
That’s a lie. Veneers have a smooth and glossy surface without pores. That’s why veneer surface doesn’t soak up any pigments and doesn’t change veneer’s color. But it doesn’t mean veneers require no care. As usually, veneers need to be brushed twice a day.
Veneers Are Fragile
People think veneers are fragile because they are sometimes called “porcelain veneers”. But modern veneers are not made of porcelain. They are made of advanced ceramics, which are much stronger than the human’s natural tooth enamel.
Veneers Require Following a Diet
People can eat everything they want but dentists warn their patients to avoid habits that may damage their veneers, like crunching on any crusty food (crumbs, nuts, lollipops, etc.), and they advise patients to try to avoid dark foods and drinks. But dentists won’t fully restrict your favorite foods and drinks.
