As the title suggests, The Amateur is a decent enough Flixtor movies. It doesn’t reinvent the genre, but it holds up as a watchable revenge thriller. The storyline is serviceable, and the characters are just interesting enough to keep things moving. While it follows a familiar path, the film thankfully steers clear of the overused “ex-special forces guy out for justice” cliché, which is a refreshing change.
Action and Tech: Entertaining but Unrealistic
The action scenes are solid, and there’s enough tension to keep you engaged. However, the film’s use of technology stretches believability to the limit. Hacking, tracking, and other complex operations are portrayed as instant and effortless things that would realistically take hours or days happen in mere seconds, usually just when the plot needs them to.
Plot Convenience Strikes Again
One of the more frustrating aspects is how easily the main character gains access to whatever he needs especially explosives while in foreign countries where he doesn’t even speak the language. There’s little to no explanation, and it feels like the story bends reality just to keep moving forward.
Weapon Handling That Misses the Mark
If there’s one thing that really stands out for the wrong reasons, it’s the weapon handling. It’s downright careless. Characters point loaded guns at each other, constantly flag one another, and almost never follow basic trigger discipline. It’s so bad that even Alec Baldwin would probably raise an eyebrow.
