It Goes

In Saying, “I Love You”
we put down the cards in our hands,
both showing our hearts at last,
dropping all pretense
of games we’re supposed to play
In Saying, “Goodbye”
we put the last piece in a puzzle that we realize isn’t a picture us
both bleeding tears that wash the story of us away
letting woes go to make room for fresh writing
recognizing that there can be good in byes after all
In Trying Again
we put down our pain
both with histories like scars that still hurt sometimes
but believing in our better selves
knowing that we still deserve to be happy
