INTERDEPENDENCE

When referring to gender equality, there are many examples of how far western society has come. There are, however, a few issues that still remain, such as equal pay and the career hindering “glass ceiling”. I suppose it is understandable then, though no less troubling, that women continue to be so bloody mean to one another. The competition can be fierce, and in order to grasp whatever power we can, both socially and economically, exclusionary and mean spirited tactics are sometimes employed.
What if, by supporting one another instead of tearing each other down, we were able to create a stronger network of independent women coming together to achieve a common goal? Would we begin speaking positively about one another, secure in the knowledge that we were all working together to advance the understanding that our lives and our goals are equally important to those of men, and to those of each of us? I like to think so. Maybe we would finally learn that there truly is strength in numbers, now that we had finally stopped being so bloody mean.
