Little thought did I give some years ago to the blessing
Of having my sight
To the fact that I am able to see the difference between
Day and night
But then I gave birth to a precious son and his
Eyes they were filled with disease
Four doctors tried but each one failed
To set my mind at ease
So we went to Atlanta to speak with a fifth
Who explained the best way he could
That cornea transplants would need to be done
And the rate of success was good.
They put him to sleep, did the right eye first
Six months later they did the other
With the healing begun on The Eyes of My Son
Indeed I was one grateful mother
Now back in our home the dawn of each day
Brings new sights he had not seen before
The joy in his eyes and the thrill in my heart
Makes me sure I could not ask for more.
So I sing him to sleep with "Amazing Grace"
Oh the words have new meaning to me....
"I once was lost but now am found...
Was blind...but now I see."
