Chitra is one of the few asterisms represented by a single star. Its star, commonly known as Spica (Alpha Virginis), lies in the lower back part of the constellation Kanya. It is located around the region where the hips of the maiden, formed by the shape of the constellation Kanya, would lie. Spica is one of the brightest stars in the night sky, with a visual magnitude of 1.06, and can be spotted even in polluted skies over big metropolitan cities. Ancient India Vedic Seers saw this star as the residence of Vishwakarma (or Tvastar), the Divine architect.
