This is a tool to enable you to take your thoughts captive and change your thought tape.
Remember, sin is something outside of you that comes at you to steal, kill and ultimately
destroy you. It is a spiritual force sent by the Enemy to cause you to miss out on all that God has
for you (Gen 4:7).
Here are some descriptions of what can be coming against you: frustration,
impatience, a critical attitude, accusation, fear, worry, inadequacy, entitlement,
disappointment, hopelessness, depression, feeling overwhelmed, confusion, unbelief, doubt,
withdrawal, isolation, resentment, bitterness, offense . . . and more. You also could have
specific lies or labels that are coming against you to attack you and your identity in Christ.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have
it to the full. ~ John 10:10
Talk about what is coming against you and what it is trying to steal from you? You may be able to do this on your own or you may need help from your spouse or a close friend whom you trust.
As the thoughts come that are not from God, you must catch them. You must not allow them to just go through your mind. Take them captive using these three simple steps:
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of
God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. - 2 Corinthians 10:5
1. In the name of Jesus, I nail ______________________ to the cross.
The thoughts could come as a feeling (anger, depression, hopelessness, rejection, self-protection, etc). They could also come as words or thoughts you’re hearing like, “I am a bad mom,” or “She’s never going to change.” These could be lies or labels.
For example: “I nail ‘I’m a bad mom’ to the cross” or “I nail depression to the cross!”
2. I break all agreements I’ve made with __________________ known or unknown and I repent of joining with ____________________.
3. I ask You, Father, to send __________________________ away from me!
Father, what do You want to give me in place of ___________________________?
