Applying for a Canada PR visa gets costlier. That’s right! On March 30, 2024, IRCC announced an increase in the cost of applying for permanent residence. This change will take effect on April 30, 2024, from 9:00:00 AM Eastern Time and will remain valid till March 2026.
The department made it clear that the step to increase the cost to apply for Canada PR has been done as per Canada’s Immigrant and Refugee Protection (IRPR), calculated “following the growing percentage increase to the Consumer Price Index for Canada, published by Statistics Canada.”
So, if you are planning Canada immigration from India after April 2024, you may not want to miss this!

Who is exempt from this fee update?
The following are exempt from paying the right to permanent residence fee along with dependent children and protected persons:
- Principal applicants’ sponsored children under 22 years of age without a spouse or partner under the family reunification class.
- Principal applicants under the humanitarian and compassionate consideration and public policy classes.
One more thing, the applicants who are “permit holders” are not allowed to include their accompanying family members in their PR applications. All those who are eligible for Canada PR in the CRS score calculator through the family reunification class have to submit individual applications to apply for Canada PR as principal applicants.
