Our country was founded on the blood, sweat and tears of our ancestors, many of who immigrated to this New World in search of a better life; and many others whose tribes had worked this land for more generations than could be recalled. They did this in the spirit of providing their offspring with the wealth of opportunity they had not been blessed with themselves, but it seems now that each generation finds things coming easier than the last, and this could very well be a recipe for disaster in the generations to come.

The things in our lives that come easy are not the ones that toughen us up, or build character, or teach us important survival lessons. It is the sum of all the pitfalls we encounter and overcome that teach us the most about ourselves. I can’t stand the thought of my own kids struggling, but it is the journey through that struggle that builds the foundation to find success. I’m fortunate that they understand - I can hold their hands and walk with them, but I can’t carry them.
