The most widely utilized carbon steel ASTM A105 material grade for making forged piping parts like flanges and fittings for small diameter piping is ASTM A105. In pressure systems, this type of carbon steel is utilized for service at ambient and higher temperatures. The following is a list of some of the parts that ASTM A105 manufactures. Elbows, tees, couplings, and other forged fittings such as flanges, valve bodies, etc. Components of pressure vessel forging, such as a self-reinforced nozzle and nozzle neck, as intended by the buyers. There is a restriction on how this standard can be used, though. Forgings composed of A105 material shouldn't weigh more than 4540 kg. Using ASTM A266, forgings heavier than 4540 kg are produced.
Forging temperatures between 2200 and 1700 F are suitable for forging ASTM A105 carbon steel, which is then quenched, tempered, or normalized. The intricacy of the forged object, among other things, will determine the actual hot forging temperatures in the closed die forging process. The ideal forging temperature can only be determined at the beginning of the forging process; greater temperatures are likely to result in surface flaws like mill scales, which will result in an uneven surface. Additionally, a lower temperature will not favor the plastic deformation of a forged item made of C1045 carbon steel.

This specification covers the specifications for forged carbon steel piping components—flanges, fittings, valves, and similar parts—for use in pressure systems at room temperature and in greater service conditions. Materials must undergo heat treatment (annealing, normalizing, tempering, or quenching). The material must adhere to the required levels of silicon, copper, nickel, chromium, molybdenum, and vanadium as well as carbon, manganese, phosphorus, and sulfur. The forgings must pass tests for tension, hardness, and hydrostatic pressure, with the latter test being used as needed. Tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, area reduction, and hardness standards must be followed by the material. There are instructions for retreatment, welding repairs, and product marking.
