The materials embedded in the final product like alloys in the ship are exposed to a highly humid atmosphere due to the moisture-enriched air around the ocean or sea breeze that can cause corrosion or rusting to the exposed materials and can cause huge losses to the consumer if the alloys of the ship get corroded and wear off the ship deck it can allow the ocean waves to get into the ship which can even cause sinking of the ship and the freight carried by the same.
To avoid such hazards and jeopardies, it becomes vital to evaluate the rusting resistance with absolute accuracy and pinpoint precision with the help of the Presto-Designed Salt Spray Test Chamber. The lab testing instrument designed by the finest manufacturers all across the globe has ensured that the lab testing instrument precisely simulates the highly corrosive environment which can cause rusting and measures how long can a material withstand such an atmosphere by creating an even higher rusting-friendly environment inside an insulated and enclosed chamber.
Conducting the Revolutionary Salt Spray Test
The conduction of the salt spray test starts with the conditioning of the specimen. Since there are different types and measures of specimen and testing respectively, the conditioning processes also vary from each other.
The operator has to clean the specimen before conducting the test in order to get rid of all the unwanted bacteria on the surface of the sample, the operator has to mask the specimen in case an entire product that is equipped with more than one material is getting tested and various other aspects of conditioning for conducting the salt spray test.
Once the sample is placed, it is a must for the operator to close the canopy in order to cut out the intervention of the external climate and not affect the internal climate, in other words, the internal climate is ensured to be 100% insulated.
The salt spray test machine is powered by a reservoir tank that carries demineralized water, which is mixed with an amount of salt in order to create salt spray inside the inner chamber. The mixture of the salt and Demineralised water results in a solution that is transported from the reservoir tank to the inner chamber with the help of PU pipes that are connected with an inlet port opening in the inner chamber.
The salt spray test chamber is also equipped with an air saturated that humidifies air inside its containers with the help of a pressure gauge and pressure valve and the humid air is transported to the inner chamber with the help of another PU pipe connected with the atomizer of the instrument.
The spread of both salt spray and the humid air causes an extremely humid weather condition as it is powered by an igus-made atomizer that has a fog dispenser. The dispenser uniformly distributes the concentrated fog made out of salt spray from the reservoir tank and humid air from the air saturator. The inner chamber is embedded with silicon bag heaters in its walls that are integrated into a U-type formation for uniform and precise testing measures.
The conduction of the salt spray test becomes a lot more accurate due to the construction of the salt spray test chamber with advanced materials. The inner chamber of the instrument is a 3-layer body with mild steel for durability, FRP made sheet for enhanced protection against corrosion & rusting, and a layer of glass wool to ensure that the heated temperatures remain insulated and do not flow out of the inner chamber.
Once the testing is completed, the operator can use the air purge button to settle down the fog before opening the canopy of the instrument in order to avoid contact of the corrosion-friendly concentrated fog with other instruments or environment.
