Retirement
What does your dream for retirement look like? Do you dream of traveling the world or building your dream home?
Do you dream of volunteering at an organization that means a lot to you or do you dream of having no schedule at all and having the world be your oyster?
Maybe you are already retired - is it turning out how you hoped it would?
I am not yet retired but my parents are. They say they feel so busy in retirement that they don’t know how they ever got anything done when they worked full time!
We live close to each other so I see how busy they are - between projects around the house, hobbies, helping with grandkids, traveling, and just general life (like cooking and cleaning), they are busy!
While they are busy, they are also loving it! They are the type of people who don’t like to sit around with nothing to do; they would both rather be busy and living life.
That’s what I picture retirement to look like - being busy doing the things that I love to do. Living life and still making a positive impact on the world around me.
I actually believe that people who retire and then sit at home with no purpose end up unhappy. There are statistics that show that having no purpose in retirement actually leads to an early death.
So when you picture retirement, I would encourage you to picture living a fulfilling life! And sitting around with nothing to do is not fulfilling. A balance of purpose and relaxation and leisure is necessary.
Whatever stage of life you find yourself in, it’s good to dream about your ideal retirement setup.
