Why Processed Foods Are Bad for You
In the conflicting world of diet, health, and nutrition - where many agree on very little - there is one thing that any expert, hobbyist, or even rookie will tell you — stay away from processed foods. But it’s not easy. Processed foods make up most of the grocery stores. The aisles are lined with deliciously inviting snacks, drinks, and instant meals.
Specifically designed for your appetite and convenience, processed foods are easy options. Filled with sugar, sodium, and increased cancer risk, these foods are terrible for you.
Highly processed foods are filled with very little nutritional value, and are designed to digest quickly. Because of that, when you eat them regularly, you will typically consume a lot more food in general, which can lead to obesity, heart diseases, and high blood pressure.
Most of the additives in processed foods have never been tested by anyone other than the company using them. This includes flavour, colour, and texture changes.
If you’re reevaluating your entire diet, don’t panic. Intimidating though it can seem, processed foods are possible to avoid. Read the labels on what you buy, shop for whole foods, and cook your meals at home. The only way to be sure of what’s in your food is to put it in yourself. Health is a journey, and it is a time commitment, but giving yourself back your wellbeing will benefit yu and everyone that you love.
Get creative, invest your time, and learn to make the food that you love from scratch! Ditch the processed foods and seek out clean, whole ingredients.
